Three Easy Tips for Creating Relaxation and Mindfulness in the Home

Today I am going to share with you some Tips for creating a space for relaxation and mindfulness within your own home with three easy steps. These are really quick and easy things to do in the home to get your space zen-ready. I will cover what I feel are three key elements to get you started on your relaxation journey. These include:

  1. Mood - Setting the Scene

  2. Scent - An olfactory sensory experience and awareness

  3. Practice - Tools and Methods to start your begin the practice of mindfulness.

1 Mood

MUSIC - Setting the mood is important for relaxation and calmness. Start with your choice of music. I throw on some of my favourites zen style music from Spotify such as Reiki, Massage and Zen Flutes or Spa Lounge. If that’s not your vibe, find the type of music that makes your mind relax, it could be classical, nature sounds.. this is entirely up to you. The playlists I listen to for relaxation on Spotify are Reiki Massage and Zen Flutes and Spa Lounge

LIGHTING - Dim the lights, close the curtains, you are attuning your senses to an orchestrated vibe. Use lamps, lighting dimmers, fairy lights, candles. Choose elements that omit a warm light and not a cool white light, there is a big difference to the senses with this.

2 Scent

DIFFUSER - If you don’t own a diffuser yet then get one. Diffusers are like an oil burner however, the oil is diffused in water and a soft light is usually omitted at the same time as the fragrance. They generally turn themselves off when the water runs out so they are safe to use in the home. I own an Eco Modern Essentials ‘Bliss’ Diffuser it is subtle and stylish and easy to use.

ESSENTIAL OIL / OIL BLENDS - Find an essential oil blend that makes you feel calm. These may include scents such as Rose, Lavender, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Fig Ylang Ylang or Patchouli just to name a few. I generally find things such as eucalyptus, peppermint, orange etc to be more uplifting so maybe best when you need that pick me up scent. My personal favourite scent is Beach Bonfire by Black Blaze - it is a blend of Smoky Vetiver, Amber and Tobacco Woods.

AROMATIC / MEDITATION MISTS - These are fabulous sprays that can be used during meditation practices, a pillow spray, as a natural perfume, or just as a quick refresher during the day. During my mindfulness moments, I love to spray the mist around the crown of my head and down towards the chest, taking in a deep breath as I do this, and then on the exhale, letting go of all those things that you are holding inside that are stressing you out. Let it Go. My favourites scents from Hanako’s I AM Range are: I AM GROUNDED and I AM SUPPORTED

3 Practice

AFFIRMATION CARDS - Affirmation card decks are a wonderful way to keep our selves in check, to centre and refocus on things that are at the crux of our happiness. Its a great way to heal any emotional scars, to refocus your energy and to allow yourself to be human and to accept your feelings, good and bad, to remember the present is all just a brief moment in time. I believe that your energy will make sure the right card will always appear, the universe will help guide you wherever you are on your journey. It is also a great reminder to just chill out, take one step at a time and don’t be so hard on yourself. I use the Original Hanako Affirmation Card Deck.

BREATHING - If you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious. Just Breathe. I know you can do it, because its involuntary. Use the music to slow your breathing or count Inhale 1, 2 ,3…… Hold 1, 2 ……. Exhale 1, 2, 3. Take long deep breaths in and visualise exhaling all the pain and stress out.

Hopefully this will help you to set up an area and vibe to get started on a bit of quick relaxation and mindfulness - even a quick 5 - 10 mins is a great start to help you feel a little bit more centred in this crazy hustle and bustle life we lead.
